Mayor Cahn, Township Council and the Board of Education broke ground in March on new multi-sport turf fields at each of Cherry Hill's high schools.
The Mayor joined school administrators, members of the Board of Education, and Superintendent Dr. Joe Meloche for the start of construction on the new field at Cherry Hill West on Thursday, March 17. Work on the field at East is expected to begin in June.
The project, a joint partnership between the Township and Board of Education, will construct new fields for use by the schools' football, lacrosse, soccer, field hockey and track & field programs. The fields are expected to be ready for play in the fall of 2016.
The facilities will be open for use by the Township and the public, when not in use by the District.
“This is the start of a new chapter for our schools, and our community," Mayor Cahn said. "By working together with the Board of Education, we ensure that our schools and our student-athletes have access to first-rate, competitive facilities that will benefit our community not just today, but for generations to come.”
Turf fields provide numerous advantages to natural grass fields, including enhanced safety, lower annual maintenance costs, more competitive play and increased playability.
