Municipal Offices Closed in Honor of 157th Anniversary of Juneteenth
In honor and celebration of Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, Cherry Hill Town Hall will be closing at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17 and be closed on Monday, June 20. Trash and recycling will be collected as regularly scheduled.
Please join Cherry Hill Township on Saturday, June 18, for the second annual Juneteenth Parade and Festival presented by the Cherry Hill African American Civic Association at Croft Farm. Juneteenth refers to June 19, 1865, the day enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they had been freed by Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation two years prior. While it is the oldest national holiday that celebrates the end of slavery, Juneteenth has only recently become more well-known across the country, and is now being celebrated by an increasing number of communities nationwide.
