WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy individuals; and
WHEREAS today, the Cherry Hill community is proud to celebrate and honor Staff Sgt. Terrell Simpkins upon his return from a four-month tour of duty in South Korea as an Airman with the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS Staff Sgt. Simpkins moved to Cherry Hill with his family at the age of 6, and he is a product of Cherry Hill’s public schools, from Russell Knight Elementary School through to Cherry Hill High School East; and
WHEREAS on November 13, 2012 Staff Sgt. Simpkins joined the Air National Guard Air Force, and completed Basic Training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, in July 2013; and
WHEREAS Staff Sgt. Simpkins is currently stationed at 177 Airborne Air Base in Atlantic City, where he received Airman of the Quarter for the LRS Squadron, and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in January 2017; and
WHEREAS throughout the history of the United States, the men and women of our Armed Forces have served our country with honor, and made great sacrifices to ensure our continued life, freedom and security, both at home and abroad, and they deserve our deepest gratitude and respect; and
WHEREAS Staff Sgt. Simpkins is one of Cherry Hill’s finest citizens, and the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township are honored to join with his family, friends, neighbors, and other community organizations, to celebrate his return home with this fitting tribute.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Saturday, May 20, 2017, to be
Staff Sgt. Terrell Simpkins Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in warmly welcoming Staff Sgt. Simpkins home, in thanking him for his service to the United States of America, and in wishing him continued health and safety as he works to protect our nation both at home and abroad.
