WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS this month marks the 50th anniversary of the Old Orchard Swim Club when residents welcomed a new neighborhood summer swim club; and
WHEREAS situated on a large wooded let next to a beautiful farm, the new club became a key recreational and social gathering place for the local residents; and
WHEREAS among the many programs and activities offered at the club was the exciting sport of competitive swimming; and
WHEREAS since 1968 the Old Orchard Otters have competed in Cherry Hill’s largest summer athletic activity, The Annual Cherry Bowl Swimming Championship and won a record 20 times; and
WHEREAS for over 40 years the club has taken great pride in hosting The Annual Bob Rueppel Mini-Meet as a means of encouraging children ages 9 and under to experience the joys of competitive swimming in a fun and relaxed atmosphere; and
WHEREAS while the swim team maintains its winning tradition, the club truly focuses on family centered activities which include social picnics, volleyball, basketball, water aerobics and the club’s popular youth water program; and
WHEREAS today the Old Orchard Swim Club continues to thrive and Cherry Hill Township is delighted to recognize and congratulate the club as it reaches this milestone.

For their years of providing to the South Jersey community a recreational gathering place for residents of all ages, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in celebrating the swim club’s 50th year of operation, and wishing the Old Orchard Swim Club many more years of success.
