(Cherry Hill, N.J.) – Township officials announced today tentative plans for mixed-use, transit-oriented development at the Victory Redevelopment Site on Woodcrest Road.
The Victory Site, located across from the Woodcrest Corporate Center, was previously home to an outdated and underutilized 1950s-era industrial site. It was designated by the Township as an area in need of redevelopment in 2013.
In the months since, the Township Planning Board and professionals have studied the site to determine the uses best suited to the site, and, in particular, the uses that would most effectively take advantage of its proximity to the Woodcrest Hi-Speedline Station and its direct access to Interstate 295.
The Township’s vision for the site includes both commercial and residential components, with plans for a possible hotel, corporate facilities and other commercial space envisioned in the future.
While a formal, comprehensive redevelopment plan will be presented by the Planning Board for adoption in the coming weeks, Township officials took the first step in making the plan a reality today by announcing that residential plans originally proposed for the current Subaru headquarters site on Route 70 would instead take place at the Victory Site.
Officials noted that residential development would comprise just a portion of the Victory Site’s redevelopment plans, and stressed that its proximity to the Woodcrest Train Station and its direct access to Interstate 295 would make the site attractive to young professionals who often look for amenities such as public transportation.
“These plans will transform the Victory Site from a vacant, nonperforming eyesore into a modern, state-of-the-art project that is prime for young professionals and those looking to downsize, but will, at the same time, take advantage of our proximity to main roads and transportation to attract new businesses and visitors to Cherry Hill, as well,” said Mayor Chuck Cahn.
The Township sees this as a unique, innovative opportunity to bring life back to this site, as well as to nearby existing businesses, which will further boost and help sustain Cherry Hill’s robust economy.
“This type of transit-oriented development creates the kind of work-play-live environment that promotes a healthy, sustainable community and keeps Cherry Hill an attractive place for a variety of individuals and businesses,” added Cahn. “We are very excited to see the final plans for the site adopted in the coming weeks.”
