WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of the Township of Cherry Hill to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS The Afterschool Alliance organizes Lights On Afterschool to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things such as science, community service, robotics, Tae Kwon Do and poetry and discover new skills; and
WHEREAS these events send a powerful message that millions of children in our nation need and deserve access to quality after-school programs; and
WHEREAS Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating after-school programs and their importance in the lives of children, families and communities; and
WHEREAS Lights On Afterschool joins 7,500 communities and 1 million Americans in celebrating after school programs; and
WHEREAS Cherry Hill Township joins Cherry Hill Public Schools SACC in proudly supporting Lights On Afterschool and its goal to ensure that lights stay on and doors stay open after school for children in every community across New Jersey.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill in the County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Thursday, October 22 2015, as
Lights on Afterschool Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with Council and me in recognizing the importance of after-school programming and activities in enriching the lives of our children.
