WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy individuals; and
WHEREAS today, the Cherry Hill community is proud to celebrate and honor Master Sergeant Harold Weiss, a Veteran of the United States Army who served our country during World War II, in the Pacific; and
WHEREAS MSgt. Weiss enlisted in the Army in August 1942 as an engineer, and served as a unit clerk in New Guinea and Japan until he retired in 1945; and
WHEREAS MSgt. Weiss was a dedicated family man to his wife of 63 years, his three children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and is often heard saying, “I’ve had a wonderful, wonderful life”; and
WHEREAS throughout the history of the United States, American veterans such as MSgt. Weiss have served selflessly and with honor, and they deserve our deepest gratitude and respect; and
WHEREAS we are grateful for the men and women of the Armed Forces who are willing to risk their lives in the name of our continued life, freedom and national security, and for the safe return of all those who serve; and
WHEREAS the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township are honored to join with MSgt. Weiss’s family, friends, neighbors, the Honor Flight, and other community organizations, to shower him with our love and admiration, and give him the gratitude he deserves.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, August 18, 2015, to be
Master Sergeant Harold Weiss Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in warmly honoring MSgt. Weiss – a true American Hero of whom we can all be proud – and in thanking him for his service to the United States of America.
