WHEREAS It is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS friends and family gather today to celebrate life of Joseph Whitcas, who served as Deputy Mayor of Cherry Hill Township from 1971-75, and who left this world on April 9, 2015; and
WHEREAS born in Philadelphia, Pa, Joseph attended Merchantville High School, where he was an avid baseball player; and
WHEREAS he served in the United States Army from March 1953 to February 1955, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal; and
WHEREAS after serving as Cherry Hill’s Deputy Mayor, Joseph went to work for the Camden County Sherriff’s Department, where he remained until his retirement in 1993; and
WHEREAS Joseph was a beloved husband to wife Janet Whitcas from 1975 until her death in 1993, and to Regina Whitcas, whom he married in 1999, and beloved father to Deborah J. Whitcas; and
WHEREAS Joseph was a dedicated public servant, beloved father and husband, and veteran of the United States Military who was respected and loved by those who knew him, and we wish to honor his legacy and memory.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill in the County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby wish to honor the life and legacy of
Joseph E. Whitcas
in the Township of Cherry Hill and do urge all citizens to join with me and the members of Township Council in extending our sincerest thoughts and heartfelt sympathies to the Whitcas family, and in remembering Joseph as a dedicated public servant.
