Cherry Hill OEM: Dangerous cold in forecast for this weekend

cold weather alert.png

Extreme cold is in the forecast this weekend, and a Code Blue Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, until 7 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14.

High winds are expected to accompany the cold, and according to the latest forecast, wind chills overnight Friday could dip as low as -15 degrees, with wind chills as low as -20 below possible overnight Saturday and through the day Sunday.

Such extreme temperatures present significant health and safety challenges, and the Cherry Hill Office of Emergency Management reminds residents to be prepared and take these potentially dangerous conditions seriously.

** Be sure to check frequently on friends and neighbors who are elderly or disabled. Pets should be kept indoors to ensure their safety.

If you or someone you know needs assistance finding a warm place to stay, please contact the Office of Emergency Management at (856) 432-8836; after hours, call Police Dispatch at (856) 665-1200.

Additionally, please be sure to report any icing on the roads to (856) 665-1200. Power outages should be reported to your utility company immediately to ensure they are aware of the outage.
PSE&G customers: (800) 436-7734
Atlantic City Electric customers: (800) 833-7476

Stay indoors as much as possible. If you must go outside, be sure to dress for the weather – particularly children who are waiting for a school bus or walking to school early in the morning:
• Wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing rather than one layer of heavy clothing.
• Wear mittens, which are warmer than gloves.
• Wear a hat to prevent loss of body heat.
• Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs.

Visit www.Ready.gov/winter-weather for a variety of tips and valuable information in helping to prepare for the extreme cold.

For questions related to this latest extreme winter weather, please contact the Office of Emergency Management at (856) 432-8836 or e-mail kseta@cherryhillpolice.com. For assistance after-hours, please call the Cherry Hill Police Department at (856) 665-1200.

As always, in the case of a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1.

Stay Informed
Throughout this and any other significant weather event, the Township works closely with the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), DPW, Cherry Hill Police and the Cherry Hill Fire Department to provide residents with updated information as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Updates will be posted on the Cherry Hill Township website as well as on the Cherry Hill Township, Cherry Hill Police, and Cherry Hill Fire Department Facebook pages.

The Cherry Hill School District posts news, school closings and delays and other important information at www.CHCLC.org, or on their Facebook page and Twitter feed.
