What is a 15-minute Neighborhood?
The Rutgers team is exploring how creating “15-minute complete neighborhoods” can help make New Jersey communities healthier, more just, and resilient while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.
15-minute neighborhoods provide residents with access to parks, schools, gathering places, social services, places to buy healthy fresh food, and other amenities within a comfortable walk or bike ride. Some also provide easy access to frequent and reliable public transit. Thriving 15-minute complete neighborhoods include a mix of housing types a range of desired destinations, a safe and convenient network of walkways and bicycle facilities and other features like traffic calming, green infrastructure, and lighting that build a sense of community and encourage people to drive less.
Please come tell us what you think:
- What makes your neighborhood a great place to live?
- What types of neighborhood amenities are most important to you?
- What would make it easier and safer for you to walk and ride a bike?
- How can we make your neighborhood and community healthier, more just, and more resilient?
