WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and

WHEREAS tonight we come together to honor Rosy Arroyo, a woman who has inspired others to live with the same compassion and care she possesses; and

WHEREAS Rosy was the recipient of Camden County’s 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Medal award, which she earned through her selfless contributions towards making Cherry Hill, and the entire Camden County community, a more accepting, unified, welcoming place to live; and

WHEREAS an advocate for youth services, Rosy has made an substantial impact locally and statewide by supporting juvenile programming and bringing people together to make that difference; and

WHEREAS in 2015, Rosy became co-chair of the New Jersey Association of County Youth Service Commissions where she wore several different hats including overseeing the data, program design, planning, and implementation of the Youth Service Commission, school-based initiatives, Juvenile Detention Alternatives initiative, prevention programming, Children’s Inter-Agency Coordinating Council, family engagement strategies, and youth and law enforcement engagement; and

WHEREAS Rosy was instrumental in developing efforts to reduce youth arrests. She specifically focused on reducing the amount of disproportionate minority contact with the juvenile justice system. To do this, Rosy led an effort allowing Camden County to collaborate with the Juvenile Officers Association, the prosecutor’s office, and six police districts to focus on innovative practices in diverting youth arrests by developing additional policies and practices that support youth and community engagement; and              

WHEREAS outside her community work, Rosy enjoys spending time with her husband Isaac and their two children; and

WHEREAS through her leadership skills, Rosy serves as a role model for all of our citizens and exemplifies the core values that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. devoted her life to teaching, and for that, she has made the Township of Cherry Hill very proud.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, February 13, 2019, to be

Rosy Arroyo Day

in the Township of Cherry Hill, and urge all citizens to join with me and the members of Township Council in recognizing Rosy for her commitment to making a difference within Cherry Hill and the South Jersey region.
