WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS St. Thomas More Parish will celebrate its 50th anniversary on October 29, 2018; and
WHEREAS St. Thomas More was founded in 1968 by the Diocese of Camden to fit the needs of the tremendous growth in Cherry Hill in the mid-1960’s; and
WHEREAS during construction of the original building, parish meetings and services were held at the St. Mary’s Home and Cherry Hill East High School; on October 13, 1974, the St. Thomas More Church building was dedicated by Bishop George H. Guilfoyle. In 2004-05, the church was renovated and was dedicated by Bishop Joseph Galante; and
WHEREAS St. Thomas More continues to be a thriving and growing community of Catholic faithful, welcoming close to 850 families, while serving thousands more in our community through outreach, mission, and educational programs; and
WHEREAS today, we give pause, honor, and praise for the deep and abiding commitment of the church’s leaders and its members, who have given so unselfishly for the past fifty years, to help the Parish family grow and thrive, and provide a valuable contribution of outreach and assistance to our community;
WHEREAS in the spirit of hope, St. Thomas More Parish is using this anniversary year to remind everyone of the importance of pride and gratitude, and great hope towards the future.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby recognize
St. Thomas More Parish
in the Township of Cherry Hill, in commemoration of the Church’s 50th anniversary, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in thanking the Church’s founders for giving our community a place that is welcoming to all people, and whose focus is on bringing spreading hope, dignity, and powerful values that help make the Cherry Hill community, and our world, a better place to live.
