WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS today we honor Rosa International Middle School seventh grader Shruthika Padhy, who made the Cherry Hill community extremely proud when she advanced to the final round of the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee; and
WHEREAS this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee was by far the biggest in the 93-year history of the competition with over 500 contestants; and
WHEREAS Shruthika excelled as one of the top scorers in the country in the preliminary test and was among the final sixteen competitors to take center stage at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Maryland; and
WHEREAS this was Shruthika’s third consecutive trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, and ultimately, she finished tenth in the country, with previous achievements including her seventh place finish in 2017 and her twenty-second place finish in 2016; and
WHEREAS Shruthika performed with poise and grace under pressure, and her success reflects her tremendous commitment to hard work and perseverance and, we are truly proud all that she has accomplished.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, July 10, 2018, to be
Shruthika Padhy Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and urge all citizens to join with me and the members of Township Council in celebrating Shruthika on a well-deserved trip to the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee, and in wishing her continued success in all that she does, in her academic career and beyond.
