WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS the Trinidad and Tobago American Caribbean Alliance US celebrates the 55th anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence with a series of special events on Aug. 18 and 19, 2017; and
WHEREAS the Trinidad and Tobago American Caribbean Alliance US was founded by Keith C. Hodge, to bring the culture of the twin islands to our citizens in the Greater Philadelphia region; and
WHEREAS Cherry Hill and the South Jersey region are enriched by the traditions and cultural influences imparted by the immigrant populations that reside in our region, and at no other time in our nation’s history has it been more appropriate to come together in celebration of our diversity; and
WHEREAS the rich traditions and contributions of the Sister Islands to our world are certainly worth celebrating, from Steel Pan, to limbo, to calypso, to Trinidad and Tobago’s role as host of the world’s largest Caribbean Carnival; and
WHEREAS we wish to thank Keith C. Hodge and the Trinidad and Tobago American Caribbean Alliance US for their vision and leadership in bringing this annual celebration of their culture to our region.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill in the County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim the week of Aug. 18 to 25, 2017, to be
Trinidad and Tobago Independence Week
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and urge all citizens to take part in the variety of festivities and celebrations taking place in Philadelphia on Aug. 18 and 19.
