WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS Rosa International Middle School sixth grader Shruthika Padhy gave the entire Cherry Hill community something to cheer about this spring, when she competed as one of just 40 finalists at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS one of 291 entrants to the famed spelling bee, Shruthika excelled, and was one of just 40 promising young spellers from across the country to make the final round in Washington; and
WHEREAS this was Shruthika’s second trip to the Scripps competition, and ultimately, she finished No. 7 in the country, a truly wonderful achievement and an improvement from her No. 22 finish in 2016; and
WHEREAS competing on the national stage can be daunting for any individual, and by all accounts, Shruthika performed with poise and grace under pressure, and we are truly proud of her accomplishment.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Monday, June 26, 2017, to be
Shruthika Padhy Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and urge all citizens to join with me and the members of Township Council in celebrating Shruthika on a well-deserved top-ten finish at the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee, and in wishing her continued success in all that she does, in her academic career and beyond.
