WHEREAS it is the intention of the Mayor and Council of Cherry Hill Township to focus attention on noteworthy occasions and individuals; and
WHEREAS today, friends and loved ones have come together to honor longtime Cherry Hill resident Augustine “Gus” Preno, who celebrated his 100th birthday on April 13; and
WHEREAS born in 1917, Gus has lived a long and remarkable life, which we are pleased to acknowledge today; and
WHEREAS among his many accomplishments in life, Gus is a veteran of the United States Navy, in which he honorably served from 1940 to 1945; and
WHEREAS professionally, Gus worked for AAA of Philadelphia for 60 years, starting in Emergency Road Services and climbing the ranks to eventually become President and COO, and Vice Chairman of its Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS Gus and his family became Cherry Hill residents in 1961, the original owners of the Barclay Farms home in which he still lives; and
WHEREAS by all accounts, Gus is a wonderful person loved by all who know him, and the Mayor and members of Township Council are happy to join those closest to him in celebrating his long and impressive life well lived.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CHUCK CAHN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Township of Cherry Hill, County of Camden, State of New Jersey, do hereby proclaim Saturday, April 22, 2017, to be
Augustine “Gus” Preno Day
in the Township of Cherry Hill, and do urge all citizens to join with me and Council in wishing Gus the happiest of birthdays as we celebrate this incredible milestone with him, and in wishing him continued health and happiness in the days, months, and years ahead.
