The following are the minimum qualifications required for the position of Police Officer in Cherry Hill Township:
• Must be at least 18 years of age and must be hired on or before their 35th birthday
• A citizen of the United States
• A resident of New Jersey at time of appointment
• Have a valid unrestricted New Jersey driver’s license at time of appointment
• Pass written, physical ability and interview component of the testing process
• Pass medical, psychological examination and drug screen
• Must be a graduate from a senior high school or have had a formal education or training showing attainment of the level represented by graduation from senior high school
• Possess a minimum of sixty (60) college credits from an accredited college at time of appointment
- If previous law enforcement or military service (minimum two (2) years of service) must possess a minimum of thirty (30) college credits from an accredited college at time of appointment
• Must be of sound moral character verified by a background investigation
• Never convicted of a crime or of any criminal offense involving moral turpitude or dishonesty

- 300 Meter Run: 70.1 seconds or less
- 1 Minute Push-ups: 24 repetitions
- 1.5 Mile Run: 15:55 minutes or less

The expected duration of the selections process upon a candidate submitting a formal application, is normally four to five months. After completion of the screening process, applicants who were not selected may reapply once the next announced selection process is announced. Re-applicants must complete a new formal application and will be considered a new applicant and must complete all the requirements in the selection process.
Successful applicants that are hired are then sent to the Police Academy for a 19 week training program.
Upon successful completion of the 18 week Academy, officers are assigned to the Patrol Division and to a Field Training Officer for an additional 16 weeks.
