Heavy Diesel Truck Mechanic

The Board of Fire Commissioners is seeking a self-motivated, detail oriented, experienced Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic for full-time employment as a Fire Department Mechanic. The ideal employee  should work well with others, have a positive attitude, a superior work ethic, enjoys a challenging work environment and possesses excellent mechanical and communication skills. Position requires regular inspection, repair and maintenance of all Fire Department vehicles. Also, maintain all related equipment and maintenance; performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Previous Experience with Fire Apparatus maintenance and repairs, preferred

CERTIFICATIONS:

Emergency Vehicle Technician certifications, preferred

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

Diesel/gas engines

Air brakes and related equipment

Hydraulic, electrical and mechanical equipment on fire pumps/aerial ladders

Fire pumps and their components

Automotive/truck tools/equipment

Automatic/manual truck and automotive transmissions

High pressure breathing air systems

Hydraulic rescue equipment

Troubleshoot vehicles/equipment for mechanical problems

Comply with Federal, State, Local and Department safety requirements

Read, write, understand and speak English

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Resident of the State of New Jersey 

Valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License 

Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel

Successful candidate must hold a Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B), or must be able to attain same within six (6) months of appointment to the position.

Pass a DOT physical.

Stable work history with excellent references

Live within close proximity to Cherry Hill for recall to duty on major emergencies

Availability to work overtime and weekends

All applicant's mechanical skills will be tested by the Fleet Manager

 $58,488.00 based on experience
